Ecology
Understanding the interactions between species and their environment is the central goal of ecology, among the most important aims of science with increasing human impacts on the planet.
Ecological research within the institute explores fundamental questions related to the maintenance of species diversity, impacts of parasites on their host, the dynamics of biological invasions, and the response of populations and communities to a changing climate. These research themes are investigated through a synthesis of mathematical theory, field experiments, and genetic approaches, and have important implications for the conservation and restoration of biological diversity.
